Hatch Rest 2nd Gen
Sound, night light and time-to-rise from your phone.
- Time-to-rise
- Night light
- App control
Yes, if you’ll use the night light and the time-to-rise light as your baby becomes a toddler: the Hatch Rest 2nd Gen combines those with a sound machine you control from your phone. If you only need steady sound, a Dohm or LectroFan does that job for less, with no app.
The Hatch Rest 2nd Gen is a sound machine, dimmable color night light, time-to-rise light and audio monitor in one, controlled from an app or on the device. Some features need an optional Hatch+ subscription; the core machine works without one.

The value of the Hatch Rest grows with your child. In the baby months, phone control means you can turn sound down or the light up without opening the door. In the toddler years, the time-to-rise light teaches when it’s OK to get out of bed.
Hatch+ is optional and unlocks extra content; you don’t need it for sound, light and schedules. If you’d rather avoid apps and upsells entirely, pick a simpler machine.
If steady sound is all you need, the Dohm’s real fan makes a smooth, non-looping whoosh and has no screen, light or app to manage.
You’ll need a separate night light and, later, a separate toddler clock.
LectroFan is small, inexpensive and has precise volume steps that make it easy to keep it quiet, which matters for infant hearing.
Like the Dohm, it is sound only.
List the jobs you want it to do: sound only, sound and light, or sound, light and a toddler clock. Hatch is worth it from the second list onward.
Sound only: Dohm or LectroFan. Sound plus light and toddler clock: Hatch Rest.
A 2014 Pediatrics study found some infant sleep machines could exceed safe noise levels at max volume; keep it low and away from the crib.
Hatch+ is optional; check what you’d actually use.
Keep cords and devices out of the crib, as the AAP advises.
If you’ll use the night light and time-to-rise into the toddler years, yes. For sound only, simpler machines cost less.
No. The core sound, light and schedules work without it; Hatch+ adds extra content.
Keep it low and place it away from the crib. Researchers found some machines can exceed recommended noise limits at max volume.
Yes. The time-to-rise light is one of its most useful features for toddlers.
